Sim Rules

The following is a set of rules and guidelines that govern Jade Island. As input grows, these terms may be changed.

Sim Rules and Guidelines

Rule 1

All players will abide by Second Life’s Terms of Service both in-character and out-of-character.

Rule 2

All participants must be at least 18+ both in character and out of character.

Rule 3

All characters should be human. The environment is a modern-day coastal city located in the United States.

Rule 4

Jade Island will ban griefers at their discretion.

Rule 5

  1. Avoid meta-gaming, god-modding and power-gaming at all costs.

    1. Meta-gaming - The use of out-of-character information for in-character purposes. An example of meta-gaming is addressing a character by name in a roleplay situation when your character wouldn't realistically know their name, simply because you the typist read their name tag. Your character doesn't see name tags.

    2. God-modding - to act in a god-like way. For example: Surviving a fall from a tall building unhurt, or getting shot and being fine.

    3. Power-gaming-

Rule 6

In Character-Conflict (ICC) should be kept realistic and fun for future role-play. ICC disputes should be settled amicably amongst players. Jade Island will offer moderators to mediate disputes that are strictly IC. The team of moderators, at their discretion, may or may not offer an alternative resolution for the disputing parties. If no such resolution exists, the moderators will resort to dice for an outcome.

Rule 7

Out-of-Character Conflict (OOCC) should not exist. But it does! It’s inevitable! Should it occur, it should be dealt with calmly and rationally amongst the involved parties. Jade Island management will actively remove themselves from any situation that looks like, smells like, sounds like or feels like OOC drama. Participants will be left to find their own resolution, even at the risk that Jade Island will burn this entire place to the ground and start again somewhere else.

Rule 8

Be Chill - See rules 1 through 6. If not, please avoid grand exits.

Rule 9

COMBAT: All forms of physical combat should use the “3-post-rule.”

1) The weapon (even a fist) is drawn

2) The weapon (even a fist) is aimed

3) The damage (even a fist) is attempted

WEAPONS: Knives, machetes, handguns, bolt-action, and pump-action shotguns are all permitted and realistic.

EXPLOSIVES/FIRE: All use of fire/explosives require approval of the FD lead or mayor.

NPCs: NPCs should be used sparingly. They will never be available to give you an alibi, witness a crime, tell tales, or have any form of impact in any way on storylines. NPCs should never be used to further a story. Also, players should not take advantage of NPC guards when no owner/employee is present.

Rule 10

ILLICIT GOODS: The residents typically frown upon bringing in illegal items from outside, especially in bulk. Locally acquired products tend to sell far better around Jade Island than any other outside hustler garbage.
